چکیده

The Ajiki-Ando (A-A) splitting of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNT) originating from the Aharanov-Bohm effect was observed in chiral specific SWNTs by the magneto-absorption measurements conducted at magnetic fields of up to 78 T. The absorption spectra from each chirality showed clear A-A splitting of the E11 optical excitonic transitions. The parameters of both the dark-bright exciton energy splitting and the rate of A-A splitting in a magnetic field were determined for the first time from the well-resolved absorption spectra. Optical signatures of the Aharonov-Bohm phase in single-walled carbon nanotubes.

We report interband magneto-optical spectra for single-walled carbon nanotubes in high magnetic fields up to 45 tesla, confirming theoretical predictions that the band structure of a single-walled carbon nanotube is dependent on the magnetic flux phi threading the tube. We have observed field-induced optical anisotropy as well as red shifts and splittings of absorption and photoluminescence pea...

Aharonov-Bohm interference and beating in single-walled carbon-nanotube interferometers.

Relatively low magnetic fields applied parallel to the axis of a chiral single-walled carbon nanotube are found causing large modulations to the p channel or valence band conductance of the nanotube in the Fabry-Perot interference regime. Beating in the Aharonov-Bohm type of interference between two field-induced nondegenerate subbands of spiraling electrons is responsible for the observed modu...

Evidence for dark excitons in a single carbon nanotube due to the Aharonov-Bohm effect.

We studied exciton structures and the Aharonov-Bohm effect in a single carbon nanotube using micro-photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy under a magnetic field at low temperatures. A single sharp PL peak from the bright exciton state of a single carbon nanotube was observed under zero magnetic field, and the additional PL of dark exciton state appeared below the bright exciton peak under high mag...

Magneto-Optics and Ultrafast Optics in Micelle-Suspended Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

We report results of 1) a high-field (≤ 45 T) magneto-optical study and 2) a femtosecond nearinfrared pump-probe study of micelle-suspended singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) whose linear absorption and emission spectra show a number of chiralitydependent peaks. In 1), we observed significant peak broadening and splitting in some of the absorption peaks in magnetic fields above 30 T, which ...

Excitons in carbon nanotubes with broken time-reversal symmetry.

Near-infrared magneto-optical spectroscopy of single-walled carbon nanotubes reveals two absorption peaks with an equal strength at high magnetic fields (>55 T). We show that the peak separation is determined by the Aharonov-Bohm phase due to the tube-threading magnetic flux, which breaks the time-reversal symmetry and lifts the valley degeneracy. This field-induced symmetry breaking thus overc...
